A Reason for the Season

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” [Meditations Divine and Moral]”
Anne Bradstreet, The Works of Anne Bradstreet

Everything is in constant flux, always changing.

As we move through the cosmos oblivious to the speed of the Earth we stand firmly upon, all things are in motion. In this sphere of constant change we reluctantly accept such motion, preferring to stay within our zone of safety, one which we have created of our own devices.

It is here where we wish to stay, but doing so only proves to be futile. And like the tree that must one day shed its own leaves, we must bloom and shed many things throughout our lives.

Many people may be aware of this, and I’m sure many aren’t. But we have yet again begun another great cosmic shift. As the planet Uranus finally moves from his eight year reign from Aries into Taurus, some of us may sense the energetic wave that has pulled us from one paradigm of thought and being into another entirely.

As some of us are much more sensitive to these shifts, just as many aren’t. The same can be said for those who might put stock into astrological thought, just as well, many do not.

But this matters very little.

We are bound by the endless shifting and movement of all that surrounds us, and of all that makes up our bodies. As trillions of cells within us go about their daily business, so do the bodies of the cosmos that make up our starry sky.

It is up to us to recognize and embrace the changes that move creation, no matter how big or small they may appear.

During these times of great shifts, many things occur. In particular is the awareness that one develops regarding the things that he has surrounded himself with. These things are the people, the relationships, habits and routines that have made up a large part of our lives, many of which are no longer in steady vibration of our soul’s rhythm.

And just like the tree, we must shed our old leaves and bloom anew once more.

This isn’t simply a New Year/New Me routine, or an Out-with-the-Old and In-with-the-New state of mind, but a shifting of internal and external seasons that all of us go through several times throughout the course of our lives.

It is the removal of what is hindering us, to make room for new growth.

But even more, it is the awareness of what we no longer should have in our lives, parting with whatever necessary in order to move forward. And it is the blooming of new life, new opportunities, new reason and a new season all our own.

Just as the Earth has its seasons of change, we too have our own seasons as well.

Recently, I’ve recognized ways of thinking, old habits and even certain people that have hindered my own growth, almost acting as an anchor to bind me to a particular spot atop this vast ocean of life; a spot void of movement. I’m now aware that these things no longer serve my forward purpose. Though I’m thankful for their presence in my life, time has come to move on without them.

This is the natural process of change.

Just as people enter our lives, many will one day exit without so much as a wave goodbye.

Some are here just a day, others for many years. But be sure, we all have our seasons.

Perhaps there are people in your life that are no longer helping you move forward. They keep you trapped in a state of being that you’ve outgrown and one that you wish to shed. Or, perhaps there are habits and routines that you’ve developed that no longer suit you.

Whatever the leaves of your life are, they are bound to fall away from you naturally. This is a natural process of growth and renewal.

But some of us are a bit stubborn.

Some of us try to keep our leaves. We hang on to what no longer serves us for any reason we can muster. We do this to feel safe, to keep our comfort in place, to keep the convenience of yesterday intact for just a bit longer if we can.

But those leaves are bound to rot, and they are bound to be blown away from our feet by the winds of change.

Though this thought would be best suited for a time during the beginning of Fall, it is an ongoing season of change that lives within us all.

Some of us have seasons within seasons, constantly shifting, and others have only a few. No matter, it is up to us to recognize these winds of change and be grateful for what has served us.

In doing this, we begin to see what we need to move forward,

And we will then see what must be left behind.

Let your leaves fall,

And go with grace letting your new season begin.

  1. This is absolutely beautiful! I can so relate to this, as I had to remove some negativity in my life recently. Thank you for writing this! So inspiring! 🙂

  2. we are always moving, because we’re growing older by the minute, gaining more and more experiences in our lives, that, is what makes our lives meaningful, and that’s what being humans are, all about, to never stay in one place for too long, otherwise, we get too comfortable, and become stagnant, and that wouldn’t be good!
